Review: Post - Journal,
Jamestown NY
by Robert W. Plyler
Monica Hatch is an attractive, blonde soprano based in New England, who
has released a number of recordings in both popular and classical genres.
Bright Seraphim is a collection of eleven beautiful selections, totalling
41 minutes, in all. Her choice of works ranges from Handel oratorio solos
to Mozart operatic arias to a Rachmaninoff ‘‘Vocalise.’’
Ms. Hatch has a fine voice, which has been obviously well-trained. Her
teachers include the late Eleanor Steber, and matriculations at the
Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music.
The choices on this recording are, as previously stated, sweet and
beautiful in nature, never venturing into anything strident or inciting.
The singer’s voice is well-supported and her technique is clean. There is
enough vibrato to make the sound interesting, but nothing excessive. Her
diction is very easy to follow.
Review: The Buffalo News
by Mary Kunz Goldman
I loved this indie CD out of Massachusetts. Soprano Hatch, who has two
jazz albums already to her credit, soars with the Cathedral of St. Paul
Festival Orchestra and the St. John's Schola Cantorum in 11 well-known
classical selections, from Henry Purcell's "Fairest Isle" to Mozart's
exquisite "Laudate Dominum" and "Pie Jesu" from Faure's "Requiem." Her
soprano is clean and clear, almost bell-like. I liked her best in the
relatively informal "Bist du bei mir" from Bach's Anna Magdalena Notebook,
performed with only a piano. Might Hatch consider a Lieder album? Review:
Three stars (M.K.G.)
